With less weight, carbon rollers have a higher critical speed than the corresponding steel roller and, due to the stiffness and lightness of carbon, the paper working formats can be wider. Thanks to the carbon roller's lower inertia, plant starting time will also be faster.

When installed on load cells, the lower tare weight means that the actual tension can be read with greater precision and speed and from smaller load cells.
 
With carbon fibre the diameters of the rollers can be lowered with a consequent reduction of required space. In many cases this allows a reduction of the overall dimensions of the machine.
